“Gnosis”
I know that I could speak,
but the words lag far behind.
I know that I could pray,
but the thought won’t leave my mind.
I know that I could sing,
but the notes were left unlined.
I know that I could write,
but inspiration was resigned.
I know that I could play,
but the impulse was reassigned.
I know that I could dance,
but soon felt disinclined.
I know that I could pretend,
but the truth would come to mind.
I know that I could work,
but felt better to unwind.
I know that I could laugh,
but the reason felt unkind.
I know that I could stretch,
but my muscles felt confined.
I know that I could run,
but without direction and so blind.
I know that I could smile,
but for it all I still pined.
I know that I could frown,
but desired peace of mind.
