At services today, my rabbi gave an amazing d’var on liberal Judaism and its apparent lack of validity in Israel. As a Reform Jew and a convert, this article makes me sad on so many levels. I’m sad that although I am deeply dedicated to my faith, I am seen as an imposter. I am sad that my rabbi, an amazingly intelligent and inspiring woman, is perceived as illegitimate and divisive. I am sad that this rabbi chose one of our holiest days to share his highly sectarian and offensive views. He can believe as he wishes and be considered Jewish; why can’t I?
